Shea butter and its benefits

Shea butter is a vegetable butter from the shea tree, a tree very present in Burkina Faso. It was important for me to choose this butter with extraordinary properties and as pure as possible, this is what makes the reputation of the products in the ETC range...products with natural vegetable shea butter. The shea butter that I use is distinguished by its yellow beige color, its smooth texture and its typical odor thanks to its composition rich in vitamins, unsaponifiable matter and triterpene alcohols, the benefits of shea butter on the face are considerable. It deeply moisturizes and above all the hydration is long-lasting. It softens the skin and nourishes it, which is beneficial for your skin.

This is why my products are designed with this magnificent butter, which is Shea butter.

You will find 7 products from the ETC… range which contain shea butter coming directly from Burkina Faso:

To apply it, simply rub the shea butter between the palms of your hands. The heat liquefies it into oil and it becomes very easy to apply.

In Europe, it is best known for its cosmetic properties as a skin moisturizer and softener. It is exceptionally rich in vitamins (A, D, E and F) and unsaponifiables. As a result, it is now used in the composition of many cosmetic products.

"The French name karité comes from the Wolof language of Senegal ghariti which means butter tree."

How to recognize natural shea butter?

  • Its color : yellow

  • Its smell : light, but characteristic, which evaporates about 5 minutes after application.

  • Its texture : it is solid, but creamy and absorbs well into the skin in addition to softening it.

A white, odorless butter may mean that it has been mechanically extracted using chemical solvents, unfortunately you will not find the same basic properties of shea butter.

When purchasing a product from another retailer, be sure to look carefully at the composition of the ingredients. Some products labeled " shea butter " sometimes contain only a tiny amount of shea butter. In addition, the butter used in the composition of these products is not necessarily purchased under fair conditions. We recommend that you consult the list of ingredients indicated on the products before purchasing them. If shea butter is listed last, it is because it is in very negligible quantity in the product.

WHERE DOES SHEA BUTTER COME FROM?

The "Butyrospermum parkii" or "Vitellaria paradoxa" grows only in the wild in the wooded savannahs of central and west Africa. This tree can live up to 300 years and begins to produce fruit at the age of 15. The average production is 15 to 20 kg per tree.

The fruits are green ovoid nuts measuring between four and eight centimeters long, inside which is a very fatty whitish almond which will give an edible substance with a texture similar to butter, hence its name shea butter.

It is a natural product from Burkina Faso, the color and appearance can change from one batch to another. A good pure unrefined and fresh shea butter is ideally preserved on average up to 2 to 3 years.

THE NUNUNA FEDERATION

The Nununa federation, which means " natural fat " in the Lyélé language, has launched into the production of organic shea butter. This federation is located in a small village in Burkina Faso. The federation has set up a semi-industrial production unit, always keeping the product methods according to the traditional churning method. Women are the main employees and they pay rigorous attention to offer an international quality product. The federation's mission is to contribute to improving the living conditions of women in rural areas by increasing their annual income.

Stage of manufacturing shea butter

The process of transforming fruit into butter is long and tedious.

  • The nuts are harvested when ripe between mid-June and mid-September.

  • They are then stripped of their pulp which surrounds the kernel containing the almond.

  • These nuts are shelled in a mortar in order to recover only the almond which is washed and left to dry.

  • The almond is crushed, roasted and finally ground to obtain a thick paste which is mixed with water to churn it.

  • This paste will be immersed in boiling water in order to separate the butter from the other components of the almond.

Once collected, the butter present on the surface is kneaded before being cooked for a long time in order to allow the water to evaporate and the remaining impurities to settle. The oil thus obtained (melted butter) will be filtered before packaging.

Did you know? Burkina Faso or Burkina is a landlocked country in West Africa.

I hope you will consider this butter as a jewel that nature brings us.

I invite you to discover all the benefits it can offer you and bring to your skin. Once you have offered these good care and especially these good products to your skin with shea butter, you will not be able to do without it.

Just like Cleopatra who bathed in donkey's milk with the sole aim of obtaining rejuvenated and soft skin. Queen Nefertiti, she owed her great beauty to the use of shea butter !
